         UMW Purpose

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Who Are We?

Women of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic background, employed, not employed, housewives, business women, single, married, divorced, young middle-aged and older women. We are women committed to mission.

The United Methodist Women is a group of women that is active in mission work throughout the world and locally. They meet once a month on the first Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., usually in the church parlor but often in the home of the hostess for that month. This last year (2009) the local UMW received the highest certificate from the Conference for their mission work. They also received the Mai Gray Charter for Racial Justice award which was an important recognition of their work to promote racial justice in the community. Their Pledge Offering for the District is $1600 and $400 for local projects. This past year, UMW gave $300 to the Festival of Sharing in October and $300 to World Thank Offering. In addition to this, they donate to Susanna Wesley, give clothes and other help to the schools as needed, give financial help to Hope Seeds & the Charleston Nutrition Center. They also contributed to the mission trip of 3 years that the Burton family was taking to the Congo (airplane missionaries). Another important part of their work is reaching out to bereaved families through a meal that they support with their Love Offering as well as with food and helping to set up and serve the meal. The UMW, speaking out with a strong voice with others to share in the love of Christ with those in need.
