Other Mission Outreach

Volunteers in Mission

Several of our congregation has joined teams which provided various kinds of service in the U.S. and in other countries.  Sometimes the service is building projects, sometimes medical missions, sometimes working with relief supplies or in children’s programs.  We also do some local projects such as building ramps for persons with physical disabilities and weatherizing homes.  Check to see what the next project might be.

Elementary School Reading

We are providing readers and reading listeners in the Charleston Elementary School.  Our members spend about an hour one or more days a week helping 2nd and 3rd graders improve their reading skills.  Anyone can join this project and be a good listener.

Food Bank and Food Pantry

Volunteers go to the Food Bank in Sikeston on occasion to help pack food boxes which will be given to low income persons in the 16 county area of Southeast Missouri.  This is done on Saturday mornings and any number of persons can help.

The Charleston Food Pantry can use volunteers to sort foods after a food drive and to help in distribution on the days when food is given out.

Southeast District Hispanic Ministries Covenant

This program is just beginning.   It is expected that we will have opportunities to interact with Hispanic families and individuals in our area to welcome them as neighbors and fellow Christians and to enable them to inter fully into the life of our communities

Festival of Sharing

An inter-faith, state-wide ingathering event, held on the third Saturday of October each year.   Its purposes are:

  • to generate financial and material aid responses for hunger, poverty and crisis

  • meet and challenge injustice through advocacy and systemic change

  • promote awareness of hunger and justice issues, local and international outreach opportunities and stewardship responsibilities

  • encourage and enable hands-on experiences with mission projects

United Methodist Women

We also participate in many United Methodist Conference and International Projects and Offerings as needs and opportunities arise.
